From March of 2020 to December of 2020, students were able to submit pictures or graphic designs to JEA, or Journalism Education Association. One of the students at FHS won two superiors, one won excellent, and nine received an honorable mention.
JEA is an association for students to submit their photos, broadcast, editorial cartoon, and yearbook ideas into a contest. Instead of being first, second, third, it goes by superior, excellent, and honorable mention respectively.
Brynn Novotny won superior in Headline Writing & Design along with Yearbook Sports Writing. Taylor Gustafson won excellent in Yearbook Theme Copy Writing. FHS’s honorable mentions were Ethan Smith in Broadcast PSA, Mikwena Lierman in Broadcast PSA, Brant Gillham in Editorial Cartooning, Gavin Schramm in News/Feature Photography, Brynn Novotny in Photo/artistic Illustration along with Yearbook Theme Copy Writing, Ericka Kroeker in Sports/Action Photography, Taylor Gustafson in Sports/Action Photography. One group of students, Brynn Novotny, Taylor Gustafson, Ericka Kroeker, and Makenzie Mills, won an honorable mention for an InDepth Coverage.
