STC students do community service

Students in school to career class are required to participate in 10 hours of community service.

STC is a class that helps prepare students for their future outside of high school. Community service has shown to be important for students to gain experience for their future and grow as a person. Due to coronavirus, finding community service may prove to be more challenging than in previous years.

“I think it will be a little more difficult to find community service during a pandemic because businesses want to keep their person to person contact low so they are either very limiting or not at all allowing volunteers to come.” Gavin Schramm ‘22 said.

While there is a limited number of businesses open to the help of these students, there are still some that will allow their help. Although it seems to be more difficult to find community service, some students already have an idea of where they will go to complete these hours.

“I was thinking of volunteering at the Bonham to complete my community service hours.” Alyxandria Kuzelka ‘22 said.

There are many reasons why people choose to do community service. Some need to do it for a class or occupation while others do it for the satisfaction of helping others. Although these students are required serve these 10 hours, they still have their opinions on the importance of community service.

“I think that it is important to participate in community service because you help people in your community with so many things, and you may learn something new about someone or something. I also feel like it is a great way for first time employees or someone looking for a job to get references.” Jaley Wigget-Anderson ‘22 said.
