Lady Jeffs advance to semi-finals

The Lady Jeff softball team traveled to Hastings to compete in the Class C State tournament as the number one seed in Class C.

Powered by four home runs, the Jeffs won their first game against Malcom with a 11-4 win over the Clippers. Claire Shumard ’20, Raven Defrain ’20, Jaelle Johnson ’20 and Jami Mans ’22 all homered in the win.

In the quarterfinal match the Jeffs faced the Haymakers from Cozad. The Jeffs won 10-0 in five innings.

In the first inning the Jeffs hopped out to an early 5-0 lead with two home runs with one coming from Defrain to tie the most home runs in a season for a Class C team at 34. Junior Ellie Ohlde’s homerun in the first inning made the Jeffs the new Class C home run leader in a season breaking the record of 34 set by Auburn in 2017.

The Jeffs continued to pound the ball with eight home runs on the day and with the overall standing at 37 on the season at the end of day of the State tournament.

The Lady Jeffs will be back in action today against the second seed Guardian Angels Central Catholic. Their game will begin at 4:30 on Field 1.
