Fairbury Volleyball travelled to HTRS where they were unable to grab a win to start the month on Tuesday, October 1.
The Jeffs kept themselves in the match with a series of close scores but ended up falling in three sets. The final point totals were 21-25, 18-25 and 21-25. Members of the team took responsibility for this outcome as they reflected on their performances.
“I think we definitely could have played way better,” Karly McCord ’22 said. “We were told and knew throughout the game that we weren’t playing to the best of our ability.”
The loss dropped Fairbury to an overall win-loss record of 5-11. The last victory for the Jeffs came when they placed third at their home invitational on September 21. Looking ahead to the rest of the season, the team has some plans in mind to ensure that the year ends on a high note.
“I want to see everyone working hard,” McCord said. “We talked about how we are going to start doing some new drills. I want to see people trying even if they aren’t used to the new drills. My goals are to get more wins and to start playing well all together again like we did in the beginning of the season.”
The Jeffs will be looking to return to the win column as the season winds down. Factors other than the team trying new things in practice could make a difference. Freshman Emily Huss is looking for a few aspects of the game that can’t necessarily be taught.
“In the upcoming games I want to see the fire in my teammates’ eyes to win,” Huss said. “We have the talent to do it, it is just a matter of them believing in themselves to get the job done.”
