Volleyball earns bronze at home invite

Fairbury Volleyball received third for its efforts in a home invitational on Saturday, September 21.

The Jeffs came out on top for two of their three matches. After starting with a 0-2 loss to Syracuse, the team bounced back with a pair of 2-0 wins against Falls City and David City. The players used what they learned in their first game to alter their playing and ensure that the following matches would be marked down as victories.

“Against Syracuse we started out very strong, but then loss our momentum,” Kennedy DeBoer ’20 said. “I think that we could work on moving on our feet and getting to our spots better on defense. I saw my team work together well in the last two games. It felt good to get those two wins. We needed them.”

assists) and Brooke Schmidt ’22 (7 assists) found ways to contribute. The Jeffs went on to outhit and outserve the Tigers with 28 kills and 10 aces compared to the opponent’s 12 kills and 2 aces. Making an impact in the box score were Huss (10 kills), Schwab (6 kills, 7 assists), Schmidt (4 aces, 15 assists), Karly McCord ’22 (6 kills) and Allison Davis ’23 (4 aces). In the last match of the day, Huss (13 kills), Schwab (9 digs, 12 assists) and Schmidt (8 assists) helped lead the Jeffs to the victory that would seal a third place finish.

“We worked together really well,” Davis said. “I think [winning the last two matches] boosted our confidence as a team. It felt very good.”

The Jeffs will travel to Superior for non-conference competition on Tuesday, September 24.
