The football team hopes their scrimmage is the start to a successful season

The football team had their annual scrimmage on Friday, August 23. According to new Head Coach Matt Edson, each player was able to get a good amount of time on both sides of the ball. Several of the guys stepped up to earn Varsity spots on the team. Their first game will be this Friday at Auburn at 7.

“I thought the scrimmage went pretty well,” Senior Bret Cole said. “We still have some work to do to clean up some of the little stuff before our first game Friday.”

This year’s team is led by seniors John Kerwood, Taylor Runge, Bret Cole, Joe Melcher, Seth Firmanik, Brock Beed, Hector Kuzelka, Carson York, Jason Hughes, Chance Amundson, and Devin Wanamaker. They set eight goals for the upcoming season.

“A couple of the goals that stand out to me are to win a playoff game and become a family,” Coach Edson said. “The Seniors have done an outstanding job at leading this football team, I’m excited to see how this season unfolds. If we could obtain the playoff goal, it would be the first playoff win in Fairbury Football history.”
