FHS wishes track athletes good luck at state

On Wednesday May 15th there was a pep rally for the 13 athletes competing at the Nebraska State Track and Field meet. At the pep rally, head coaches, Matt Edson and Derek Garfield spoke on behalf of the athletes.

The qualifiers include Brock Beed ’20 in pole vault, he will vault at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Dillon Weichel ’19 will compete in the 300 meter preliminary hurdles at 7:15

p.m. on Friday night. Ellie Ohlde ’21 qualified in the pole vault and will compete at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Sara Huss ’20 will be throwing discus at 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon, running the preliminary 400 meter dash at 5:15 p.m. and the preliminary 200 meter dash at 7:15 p.m. on Friday night.

The 4×8 relay, consisting of Mikwena Lierman ’21, Ellie Ohlde ’21, Josephine Blatny ’20 and Mikasa Lierman ’19, will run at 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. The 4×4 relay, including Mikwena Lierman, Mikasa Lierman, Cora DeBoer ’20 and Sara Huss, will run at 3:55 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

“Having a pep rally is always a lot of fun. The support from not only the students but also teachers has always been awesome to have,” Huss said. “We are really blessed with all the support we have gotten throughout the year, especially at our district meet in beatrice. There were several students who took time out of their day to go watch and that was greatly appreciated, by myself and the track team as a whole!”
