Jeffs battle through a tough season opener

The Varsity Girls lost a tough first game of the season to Lincoln Christian last Friday night. The final score of the game was 27-53. Their next game is December fourth at home against Superior. It will be the annual Grey Out Game.

“Overall I am pretty happy with how the game went with Lincoln Christian,” Girls Head Basketball Coach Lyle Thompson said. “It is hard to implement a new system in a short period of time, and I thought the girls tried very hard to run what I was asking them to do. We made a few more errors than we would have liked, but they are all fixable which is good. Our effort was pretty good too. Even though it was a loss, it was a solid start in the right direction”

The leading scorer for the Jeffs was Sara Huss ’20 with ten points. Ellie Ohlde ’21 and Jessa Eden ’19 tied for second with seven. Huss also led in offensive rebounds and Jaelle Johnson ’20 led in defensive rebounds.

“I think we played more disciplined than what we were used to,” Cora Deboer ’20 said. “Their man to man defense was tough to score on, but we executed well when we got the chance to. For being our first game with a new everything it wasn’t too bad.”
