The Fairbury Jeffs Football Team ended their season with a win over the Fillmore Central Panthers on October 19, 2018 with a final score of 34-13. Brody Kroll ’21 won Overall Player of the Game. Seth Firmanik ’20 won Offensive Player of the Game, and Joseph Melcher ’20 won Defensive Player of the Game. Special Teams Player of the Game went to Bret Cole ’20.
“I think I played pretty well, I had some good runs and tackles throughout the whole game,” Brody Kroll ’21 said.
The Jeffs finished their season with a record of 3-6. They had 16 total touchdowns, 114 total points, and 474 tackles.
“Overall, we can’t be satisfied with 3 wins,” head coach Kameron Lenhart said. “There were positives that came out throughout the season though. This team showed what it meant to be a family. They stuck together during the hard times and I can’t thank them enough for that. A lot of teams could have given up and being defeated 6 times as they did. But they chose to get better every week and finished the season on a good note that can help gain momentum for the future. ”
For the seniors, the game against Fillmore Central was the last of their high school football careers. There were seven seniors on the team this year. Senior Tommy Kroeker played for three years, but had a different experience this year.
“I’ve learned through football that you just have to roll with the punches,” Kroeker said. ” This year was way different because I felt like I wasn’t actually part of the team (talking about being injured and having to sit on the sidelines). I’ve made so many memories in football, but the best has to be all of the team bondings.”
