Volleyball takes third on road trip to Falls City

Fairbury Volleyball placed third at the Falls City invite on Saturday, October 6.

The Lady Jeffs went 2-1, winning against Tri-County (2-0), Omaha Gross (2-0), and falling to Diller-Odell (0-2). This performance earned the group third-place honors. Junior Sara Huss was glad to see these results from her team.

“It felt really good to have all of the hard work that we have been putting in pay off in the form of receiving [third] place,” Huss said. “My favorite moment from Saturday was

when we won our last game and got the big trophy. I was just so proud of how we played to get to that moment.”

At the end of three matches, the Lady Jeffs racked up 18 aces, 80 kills, 9 blocks, and 41 digs. Leaders in these categories were Izze Schwab ’20 (6), Huss and Leah Mach ’21 (20), Huss (7), and Joy Ondrak ’19 (14) respectively. Saturday exposed both areas where Fairbury thrived and those that have room for improvement.

“We really had a great hitting efficiency and were also pretty strong in the areas of blocking and passing,” Huss said. “I think that we need to improve on our serving efficiency and serve-receive passing so that we keep it at a consistent level throughout the whole game.”

The Lady Jeffs return to Falls City on Tuesday, October 8 to face the Tigers.
