Why I choose to be happy

Happiness has its own meaning to every person. There isn’t a certain step-by-step guide on how to achieve happiness in your life. Although that would be awesome each person’s happiness is on their own personal level, but every person is actually responsible for how happy they are. Whether you believe it or not, happiness is a choice and we are in control of how much of it we have.

Life is packed full of obstacles meant to challenge us, but it’s the way you respond to it that determines your level of happiness. I’ll be the first to admit that it can be extremely hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel at times. It’s hard to not let the bad things get to you and it can be hard to let yourself be happy, but the first thing you can do is just try. If you just try to smile more or just choose to not feed those negative thoughts.

At volleyball we do some positive team reading and one of the things we read about was “feeding the positive dog.” According to our book each person theoretically has two dogs, a negative and a positive dog. And the best thing to do is to continue to feed that positive dog so that the negative dog no longer has power over you and your thoughts.

I know when you are feeling down in the dumps it can be hard to hear that happiness is a choice. But hold on to whatever happiness you have and continue to look ahead to what’s good and of course just try.
