Thursday night, the Fairbury Jeffs Varsity Volleyball Team won all three sets against Crete. The final scores were 25-14, 25-19, and 25-19. Highlights from last night included 2 aces by Leah Mach ’21, 12 kills by Mikasa ’19 and 8 by Mach. Their serve receive average was a 2.31, this was achieved with Janessa Swanda ’19, Joy Ondrak ’19, Mach, and Lierman. Sara Huss ’20 and Jessa Eden ’19 provided a solid first line of defense at the net with their blocking and lastly, Izze Schwab ’20 tallied 31 set assists.
“Last night (Thursday night) the girls did a good job of sticking with our strengths,” Volleyball Coach Hannah Rundle said. “We passed the ball very well, both serve receive and defensively. We looked a little slow at the net and made more hitting and serving errors than we typically like to see. Overall, I was impressed with our ability to stay the course and get the win!”
The Lady Jeffs had a home tournament this last Saturday. When asked, Coach Rundle said the goal was to be ready to compete all day and that they had a great opportunity to play three solid matches of volleyball and wanted to be at their best.
“I think we served aggressively,” Leah Mach ’21 said. “Our kill efficiency was very good. We just need to work on minimizing unforced errors.”
