Trap team ends season successfully at state meet

This past weekend the Fairbury Trap Team competed at their state trap meet in Doniphan, Nebraska. Fairbury 1 placed fourth in the 16 yds category with a total of 361 points. Team members included Brock Barton ’18, Jacob Maschman ’18, Kyle Gregory’21, Lane Zabokrtsky’21, and Riley Stewart’21. The team placed ninth overall.

On Friday, in the 16s, Jacob Maschman’18 shot 75 out of 75. Kyle Gregory’21 shot 74/75. Lane Zabokrtsky shot 73/75. Riley Stewart’21 shot 67/75. Tommy Kroeker’19 shot 60/75. Austin Massa’21 shot 60/75. Brock Barton’18 shot 72/25.

“My favorite part of state trap is seeing all of my friends from across the state that I shoot with in the summer,” Barton said. “I will miss hanging out as a team every Saturday for the entire day. Whether it was 90 degrees or a blizzard, we still were there enjoying it.”

For the seniors this would be their last meet competing for Fairbury High School. This years seniors included Brock Barton and Jacob Maschman. When asked what they would miss most about Trap Maschman replied, “I am definitely going to miss going to practice and shoots with my team every weekend. My favorite part of Trap has been going out and enjoying the nice weather and breaking clays.”
