The trap team competed at Lincoln Trap and Skeet on Saturday, April 28 in the Conference trap meet. The team attended this meet in preparation for the State meet the following Saturday.
The Fairbury trap shooters had a productive meet in Lincoln with several of earning honors and awards. Senior Brock Barton received runner up in the 22/23 yard division with a score of 47/50. Barton also earned a spot on the Southern Conference First Team. Although Barton didn’t perform as well as he hoped, he continues to prepare for the upcoming State meet.
“I just got used to my new gun and it’s a mental thing now but I know I can improve,” Barton said.
Freshmen Riley Stewart and Lane Zabokrtsky earned spots on the Southern Conference Second Team while senior Jake Maschmann earned a spot on Third Team.
“I feel like I didn’t do as well as I could have,” Masc
hmann said. “Trap is a mental game and my head just wasn’t in it at the time. I need to focus more, but that’s hard to do with graduation on my mind.”
The trap team will be in action again at the State trap meet in Doniphan, Nebraska coming up on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5. The Conference meet provided them an opportunity to further prepare for State.
“We’ve been struggling in handicaps for the majority of the year and I think we are just getting warmed up for State with Conference,” Barton said.
