Speech members talk their way to the top at Meridian

On Saturday, February 10, the Fairbury Speech Team was in action at the Meridian Speech Meet. At the meet, 13 members were in attendance and competed against four other schools. A few schools dropped out because of the weather forecast, but the meet ran smoothly for those attending.

Fairbury was lucky enough to have every competitor place in their different categories. Grant Snyder ’18 and Jayson Klaumann ’19 received second in their duet; Klaumann also was first in Informative and Snyder was first in Impromptu. In Extemporaneous Nichole Harris ’19 placed first and Dakota Gladson ’19 was first in Entertainment. Shelby Klaumann ’21 placed second in Humorous Prose and Michaela Buchli ’19 placed second in Informative Speaking.

In Persuasive Jacob Troxel ’18 placed sixth, Jordan Ruhnke ’18 placed fourth, and Jadyn Rasmussen received first. Poetry also had some places with Britney Scheetz ’18 placing second and Darby Paulsen ’20 placing third. Finally, in Serious Prose, Taylea Mills ’19 placed first, Scheetz placed second, and Hailie Nicholson ’21 placed fifth.

The speech team will be back in action in Sutton this Saturday, February 17.
