Lady Jeffs successful against Sandy Creek Cougars

The Lady Jeffs went head-to-head with the Sandy Creek Cougars on Tuesday here at Fairbury High School. They easily defeated the Cougars with a final score of 41-32.

Sophomore Jaelle Johnson led the team in points with 12 points, followed by Senior Macy Ohlde and Junior Jessa Eden with eight points each. All eight of Ohlde’s points came from free throws, earning her the best free throw percentage on the team of the night with 80 percent.

“We stepped up on our free throws and finished but we could have knocked down some inside shots and outside as well, but all together we finished well,” Eden said.

Sara Huss ’20 led the team in rebounds, with eight each offensive and defensive. The Lady Jeffs had a total of 17 turnovers on the night.

“I thought the team executed well on the offensive end. We saw the floor well well ad finished many of our own downlow shots,” Ohlde said. “[Our] rebounding was very good throughout most of the game, which helped us limit Sandy Creek to only one shot.”

With another win under their belts, the Lady Jeffs will be in action again on Monday, Jan. 29 in Conference action.

“I thought the girls played hard and rebounded the ball well. I also liked that we had under 20 turnovers,” Head coach Amy Engle-Evans said. “We need to be more efficient on the offensive end [and] finish better inside.”
