On Wednesday, November 22 the wrestling team held their annual wrestle-offs to determine varsity spots throughout the season.

Although some matchups were to decide varsity positions, others were simply exhibition matches. After wrestle-offs a non-varsity wrestler can challenge the varsity position holder for a spot in the same weight class, but if the varsity wrestler maintains their spot for three weeks in a row they secure the position for the rest of the season.

Coach Derek Garfield tries to prepare his wrestlers for the regular season by keeping it as close to a regular tournament as possible and bringing in a certified official.

“I think it went really well,” Garfield said. “There were a lot of close matches and I think we accomplished what I wanted to.”

The wrestling team will have its first regular-season invitational at York on Saturday, December 2nd.
