Girls basketball laces up for another season

Monday, November 6th the girls basketball team laced up their sneakers for the new season. This week has been set aside conditioning prepping the girls for the sprints up and down the court.

As of this coming Monday will be in full swing. Practice will consist of ball handling drills, shooting drills, and running through plays to make sure The Jeffs defense and offense are ready for the upcoming season.

“We start ball handling and shooting drills. We run through plays. We still run for the first few practices.” Tori Likens ‘19 said.

The first official game of the 2017-2018 season is December first against Lincoln Christian at home. Last year the Crusaders defeated the Jeffs 81-21. November 27th will be the jamboree game will be away against Syracuse.

“I think we have a better chance to beat them this year than past years because we have a lot of returning girls this year,” Likens ’19 said.

The season is looking up for the girls with all girls returning and some talented freshmen being added to the roster.

“I really believe we will have a chance to compete for a conference title and district title as well.” head girls basketball Coach Amy Engle-Evans said.

Not only will the girls be working hard on the court, but as a team they will be hitting the books hard when they aren’t on the court. The seniors came up with this years goal and mission statement.

“Our mission statement developed by our seniors is give 100% every practice, game and school day. Our entire team then came up with nine pillars that will help hold us to the standard of excellence. The pillars are: Unity, responsibility, attitude, being coachable, 3.0 team GPA, confidence and respect.”
