Grapplers compete at state duals

On Saturday Feb. 25 the Fairbury wrestling team traveled to Kearney to compete at the NSAA State Duals. This was the first time in Jeff history that a Fairbury team has qualified for the state dual tournament.

The Jeffs went into the dual tournament as the eighth seed in the bracket and took on the first seeded, and eventual champions, Gretna Dragons. Fairbury had a tough time scoring points against Gretna and lost by a final score of 57-12. In the second dual of the day the Jeffs squared off against the Grand Island Northwest Vikings. The Vikings got off to a hot start and the Jeffs couldn’t recover as they lost 51-26.

The Jeff wrestlers finished their season with many impressive accomplishments and records. They qualified eight wrestlers for the state tournament, which was a school record. Over the course of the season five wrestlers earned their 100th wins. The Jeffs graduate four seniors from this year’s team.
